Remarks |
Marie Honegger was a granddaughter of Kaspar Honegger (1820-1892), founder of 'Maschinenfabrik Rüti', a major textile machine factory in Rüti, near Zurich. She was married to Hermann Hess, who founded the furniture factory Embru (Eisen- und Metall-Bettenfabrik Rüti) in the year in which this portrait was painted.
During the painting of the portraits of Marie Hess-Honegger, her husband and their daughter, Goovaerts lived and worked at the Hess-Honegger villa in Rüti. |
