The poster was made on the occasion of the International Exhibition of Visual Arts (August 5 - September 3, 1906) organized by the Momus Society in Maastricht. Henri Goovaerts exhibited three paintings here.
The poster was printed in two versions: one with Dutch text and one with French text.
The two women representing muses of the visual arts are the wife of the painter, Lily Goovaerts, and her sister Anna Meyer. Lily carries the painter's palette, Anna the the guardian angel of the city of Maastricht. |
