| Remarks | In 1887 Henri Goovaerts began his studies at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. That same year he took part in the Prix de Rome painting contest for the first time. This painting may have been made for that contest. In 1890 he would again participate in the painting competition and this time he would win the prize, with the painting 'Dido'. The canvas is visibly damaged in several places. |
