Remarks 'We are informed that Mr Goovaerts has delivered the portrait of the late Mayor Bauduin to the authorities. This excellent portrait of the sympathetic former mayor is meant for the mayors gallery at the town hall,’ according to daily newspaper De Roermondenaar on December 30, 1911. Before the portrait got its definitive place in the town hall, it was exhibited in the fourth week of January 1912 in the display window of art dealer Nijssen-Stols in the Muntstraat in Maastricht. Nijssen-Stols provided the framing of this portrait, as well as that of the other mayor portraits of Goovaerts. Petrus Christianus Hubertus Bauduin (1836-1910) was the mayor of Maastricht from 1900 to 1910. His portrait would be the last one in the series of mayors portraits made by Henri Goovaerts for the city of Maastricht. Henri Goovaerts died in August 1912. A month later, the City Council of Maastricht decided to reimburse his relatives an amount of 600 guilders [about 275 euros] for ‘what can be considered to have been paid short for the painting of about ten mayors portraits.’ (Reference: Limburgs Belang, September 28, 1912)
