Remarks |
This painting is a rarity within the so far known oeuvre of Henri Goovaerts. Are we looking at a study of a living figure or is this a copy of a (detail of a) painting that Goovaerts saw during his study trip in Italy or Spain? The twisted posture of the man as well as his relatively elongated body evoke associations with the work of Andrea del Sarto, Pontormo or other Florentine Mannerists. |
