Remarks |
The painting of the two women in a garden is only known from this photograph originating from the archive of Lily Goovaerts. Here we get a glimpse of Goovaerts’ method of work. Next to the large painting, we see a small version of the portrait and a drawing of the seated lady who both serve as studies for the final piece. It is remarkable that the painter works on the large portrait while it is already framed. This may have been arranged for the photograph, which was probably made in 1906. A similar photograph of Henri Goovaerts in the same situation appeared on September 22, 1906 with an article in the periodical ‘De Prins’. |
