Remarks |
This drawing is one from Henri Goovaerts’ latest sketchbook. On the back there is a sketch for a portrait, a study of a hand and a sketch of the wife Lily feeding a baby, most likely Frits, their youngest son, born in 1908.
Hans is the eldest son of Henri and Lily Goovaerts. Emma Fey is a daughter of the Fey family, living in the neighbourhood of Sint Pieter, Maastricht, where the Goovaerts family also lived in those days. From autobiographical notes by Frits Goovaerts we learn that the children of both families spent a lot of time together. In 1909 Henri Goovaerts painted the portraits of the Fey couple. |
