Remarks |
This portrait is most likely the second portrait that Henri Goovaerts made of the Maastricht pharmacist Achilles Victor Grossier (1827-1864). It seems to be a signed copy of the first portrait. We know that Henri Goovaerts, who had become a trained copyist during his classical art education, did more often make several copies of a portrait, intended for different family members. |
