Remarks |
This is the only known double portrait in the work of Henri Goovaerts. Here we see Marie Sophie Louise (1897-1973) and her brother Victor Leon Robert (1894-1911), the two oldest children of Albert Grossier and Louisa Wijnands. The couple had commissioned Henri Goovaerts to portray their parents(-in-law) a year earlier. It is believable that portraits of the couple itself also have been made, although these are not known up till now. |
