Remarks |
On the occasion of the visit of Queen Wilhelmina and her mother Queen regent Emma to the city of Maastricht in May 1895, at various locations in the city arches of honour were placed, created by Maastricht artists, including Frans van de Laar, Fons Olterdissen and Henri Goovaerts. On April 12, 1895, the Deventer Dagblad wrote: 'Among the decorations that will be placed in honour of the visit of the queens to Maastricht, will especially excel [...] an arch of honour on the Statenstraat executed by Mr. H. Goovaerts. The wide posts of that arch will be painted with representations of various crafts, in terracotta colour, on golden ground [...]' The photo used here was taken in 1895 by Theodor Weijnen (reference: Regional Historic Center Limburg, GAM photo collection, inv. no. 22368). |
