Remarks |
Maria Hubertina Isabella Hustinx (1843-1905) was the wife of Jules Schaepkens van Riempst, alderman in Maastricht at the beginning of the twentieth century. His portrait, in his uniform of the Maastricht Civic Guard, was painted by Henri Goovaerts in 1902.
The portraits of the husband and wife differ in size, so it is not likely that they were primarily intended as pendants. Nevertheless, Goovaerts probably painted the portraits in the same period, considering the age of the woman portrayed. This portrait might have been painted on the occasion of Isabelle Hustinx's sixtieth birthday in april 1903. |
