Remarks |
Jules Brouwers (1869-1955) was of considerable descent. His father was a landowner, lawyer, and active in local and national politics. His mother was a daughter of Petrus Regout, the founder of the famous Maastricht tableware factory Koninklijke Sphinx. Jules Brouwer was educated as a draftsman and painter at the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Saint-Luc in Liège. Like Henri Goovaerts, he was one of the first members of the ‘Limburgse Kunstkring’ (the Limburg Art Circle), founded in 1910. This portrait may date from that time. |
